GENERAL CALCULATOR II - PD, POPULATION DOUBLINGS
APPLICATION: PD is a simple conversion of cultured cell number data into a cell kinetics parameter that allows quantification and comparison of cell proliferation rates independent of the magnitude of the cell numbers.
CULTURE CONDITIONS: Any
CALCULATOR II
The number of cell population doublings during a period of culture is calculated by the following equation:
Number of cell doublings = ln(fold increase in cell number) / ln2
To calculate PD:
Enter:
- N1, Number of initial cells
- N2, Number of cells at the end of the period of culture

USE EXAMPLE: PD can be used to quantify and compare the amount of proliferation by cultures of bacteria, protozoa, microalgae, plant cells, animal cells, human cells, etc.
